Position Summary:
The Montessori Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and leading a high-quality Montessori preschool classroom for children aged 2-7 years. This role upholds authentic Montessori principles while ensuring compliance with Malaysian preschool regulations. The Lead Teacher creates a carefully prepared environment that supports independence, concentration, self-discipline, and holistic child development, while mentoring Assistant Teachers and working collaboratively with families and school leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Leadership & Curriculum
- Lead the daily operation of a Montessori preschool classroom in alignment with Montessori philosophy and best practices
- Prepare and maintain a complete, orderly, and developmentally appropriate Montessori learning environment
- Present Montessori lessons clearly and accurately according t o children’s developmental needs
- Observe, assess, and plan individualized and group learning experiences
- Establish consistent classroom routines that promote independence, responsibility, and respect
Child Development & Guidance
- Support each child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development
- Use positive discipline and respectful guidance aligned with Montessori principles
- Ensure children’s safety, well-being, and emotional security at all times
- Guide children through transitions, self-care routines, meals, outdoor play, and group activities
Observation, Assessment & Documentation
- Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of children’s progress and development
- Maintain accurate learning records, portfolios, and developmental reports
- Use observation data to inform lesson planning and classroom adjustments
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and progress discussions
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise, mentor, and support Assistant Teachers and classroom staff
- Model professional Montessori practice and guide assistants in classroom responsibilities
- Collaborate with school leadership on curriculum planning, school events, and quality improvement
- Participate actively in staff meetings, training, and professional development
Parent Communication & Partnership
- Build respectful and collaborative relationships with parents and caregivers
- Communicate clearly and professionally regarding classroom practices and child development
- Support parent education initiatives, orientations, and school events as required
Professional Conduct & Compliance
- Adhere to school policies, confidentiality standards, and ethical professional conduct
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian preschool regulations (MOE / JKM, where applicable)
- Uphold child safeguarding policies and procedures
- Demonstrate commitment t o continuous professional growth in Montessori education
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma or Degree i n Early Childhood Education (ECE) preferred
- Minimum 2-3 years of preschool teaching experience preferred
- Strong classroom leadership, observation, and communication skills
- English proficiency required; Bahasa Malaysia preferred
Regulatory and Compliance Requirements (Malaysia)
- Meets Ministry of Education (MOE) and/or Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) requirements, where applicable
- Valid medical clearance and background screening
- Commitment t o child safeguarding and professional ethics
