Montessori Assistant Teacher (Preschool)

Position Summary:

The Montessori Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Montessori Teacher in creating a calm, orderly, and nurturing prepared environment for children aged 2-7 years. This role is essential in upholding authentic Montessori principles while meeting Malaysian preschool regulatory requirements. The Assistant Teacher contributes to children’s holistic development-social, emotional, physical, and cognitive-through respectful guidance and daily classroom support.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Support

  • Lead the daily operation of a Montessori preschool classroom in alignment with Montessori philosophy and best practices
  • Prepare and maintain a complete, orderly, and developmentally appropriate Montessori learning environment
  • Present Montessori lessons clearly and accurately according t o children’s developmental needs
  • Observe, assess, and plan individualized and group learning experiences
  • Establish consistent classroom routines that promote independence, responsibility, and respect

Child Guidance and Care

  • Supervise children at all times t o ensure safety, well-being, and compliance with child safeguarding policies
  • Support children in developing independence, self-care skills, and positive social interactions
  • Assist with daily routines such as arrival, transitions, meals, toileting, rest time, and outdoor play
  • Provide emotional support and gentle guidance using positive discipline approaches

Observation and Documentation

  • Observe children’s learning, engagement, and behavior, and share observations with the Lead Teacher
  • Assist with basic documentation, learning records, photos, or portfolios as required by the school

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and wider school team
  • Communicate respectfully with parents when appropriate, under the guidance of the Lead Teacher or school leadership
  • Participate in staff meetings, school events, and professional development activities
  • Assist with basic documentation, learning records, photos, or portfolios as required by the school

Professional Conduct

  • Model professionalism, patience, respect, and care in all interactions
  • Adhere to school policies, confidentiality standards, and Malaysian preschool regulations
  • Demonstrate willingness t o learn and grow in Montessori philosophy and practice
